# Rate Limits

> Request limits per API key and how to handle 429 responses.

## Rate Limit Headers

Every response includes these headers:

| Header | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `X-RateLimit-Limit` | Maximum requests allowed in the current window |
| `X-RateLimit-Remaining` | Requests remaining in the current window |
| `X-RateLimit-Reset` | Unix timestamp when the current window resets |
| `Retry-After` | Seconds to wait before retrying (present only on `429` responses) |

## Handling 429 Responses

Read the `Retry-After` header and wait at least that many seconds before retrying. Do not immediately re-send — repeated fast retries prolong the backoff window.
